HUMOUR, SPIRITUALITY AND EMOTIONAL INTIMACY AS CORRELATES OF MARITAL SATISFACTION AMONG COUPLES IN AWKA, ANAMBRA STATE
Abstract
The study examined how humour, spirituality, and emotional intimacy relate to marital satisfaction among couples in Awka, Anambra State, Nigeria. A total of 223 couples took part in the research, chosen through a mix of purposive and incidental sampling methods. Among the participants, there were 123 males (55.2%) and 100 females (44.8%), with ages ranging from 18 to 65 years (M = 36.3, SD = 7.10). The research utilized four main tools: The Humour Inventory by De Koning and Weiss (2002), the Spirituality Questionnaire by JochenHardt (2007), the Index of Marital Satisfaction Scale by Walter W. Hudson (1974), and the Emotional Intimacy Scale by Euckie (2022). A correlational research design was used, and Pearson product moment correlation analysis was conducted to test the hypotheses. The results showed that humour had a significant positive correlation with marital satisfaction (r = 0.460, p < 0.05), while spirituality had a significant negative correlation (r = -0.419, p < 0.05). Additionally, emotional intimacy was positively correlated with marital satisfaction (r = 0.575, p < 0.05). The study highlighted that humour and emotional intimacy are crucial for enhancing marital satisfaction, whereas spirituality seems to have a negative impact. It was recommended that religious and community organizations should include training on humour, emotional intimacy, and conflict resolution in premarital counselling to help couples develop essential relationship skills.

The Impact of Digital Mental Health Interventions on Anxiety and Depression: Effectiveness, Challenges, and Ethical Considerations
Abstract
Digital mental health interventions (DMHIs) have emerged as a promising approach to addressing the growing global burden of anxiety and depression. These interventions, which include mobile apps, online therapy platforms, and telehealth services, offer scalable, accessible, and cost-effective solutions for mental health care. Research indicates that DMHIs can be effective in reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression, particularly when they incorporate evidence-based techniques such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and psychoeducation. However, their effectiveness varies depending on factors such as user engagement, intervention design, and the severity of the condition. Despite their potential, DMHIs face significant challenges, including low adherence rates, limited personalization, and disparities in access among underserved populations. Ethical considerations, such as data privacy, informed consent, and the potential for over-reliance on technology, also pose critical concerns. This work explores the impact of DMHIs on anxiety and depression, evaluates their effectiveness, identifies key challenges, and discusses ethical implications to inform future development and implementation in mental health care.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND AGE AS CORRELATES OF ANTEPARTUM DEPRESSION AMONG PREGNANT WOMEN IN ANAMBRA STATE
Abstract
This study explored the connection between domestic violence, age, and antepartum depression in pregnant women in Awka, Anambra State. A targeted sample of 116 women aged 19 to 40 years (M = 29.7, SD = 6.35) took part. Using a correlational research design, the study utilized two standardized instruments: The Domestic Violence Scale and a Depression Scale specifically designed to evaluate symptoms of antepartum depression. Data analysis utilized Pearson Product Moment Correlation. Findings revealed a noteworthy positive association between psycho-physical violence—a facet of domestic violence—and antepartum depression (r = 0.394, p 0.05), indicating a weak or unreliable association. In general, domestic violence showed a notable positive correlation with antepartum depression (r = 0.239, p 0.05), suggesting that psychological factors could have a more substantial impact than age on depressive symptoms in pregnancy. These findings highlight the significance of including intimate partner influences in maternal mental health approaches. Therefore, it was advised that antenatal care initiatives include assessments for domestic violence and offer assistance for relational issues
